  • Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Unveils 63 Projects Worth Rs 5,028.17 Crore at Mumbai Port Authority’s 154th Foundation Day – Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal (Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways) unveiled a development pipeline of 63 projects valued at Rs 5,028.17 crore at the 154th foundation day of the Mumbai Port Authority in Mumbai, under the theme “Together We Can.” Exam importance: The projects comprise seven inaugurated projects worth Rs 132.29 crore, 34 foundation stone-laying projects worth Rs 1,354.59 crore, and 22 newly announced projects worth Rs 3,541.29 crore, alongside agreements for the Indira Dock Operations and Maintenance Project and the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina Project. Mumbai Port Authority (MPA), formerly Mumbai Port Trust, is one of India’s 13 Major Ports under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
  • 16th BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting 2026 Held in New Delhi – The 16th BRICS National Security Advisers’ (NSA) Meeting was held in New Delhi on 22-23 June 2026 under India’s BRICS Chairship, chaired by Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor of India, under the theme “Non-Traditional Security Challenges Confronting the World Today.” Exam importance: As part of India’s 2026 BRICS Chairship calendar, the BRICS Heads of Space Agencies (HOSA) meeting was held in Bengaluru on 23-24 June 2026, hosted by ISRO and the Department of Space, the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting was held on 25 June 2026 in Gurugram, Haryana, with the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” and the First BRICS MSME Forum and Third SME Working Group Meeting were held in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. BRICS comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, with India holding the 2026 Chairship. 
  • MoCA and Delhi International Airport Launch ‘Air Suvidha 2.0’ Portal – The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) jointly launched ‘Air Suvidha 2.0’, an upgraded contactless Passenger Health Self-Declaration (PHSD) portal, following the WHO’s declaration of the Ebola (Bundibugyo virus) outbreak in the DRC and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Exam importance: Developed with the Directorate General of Health Services, the portal requires arriving international passengers to submit a Self-Declaration Form covering a 21-day travel history up to 24 hours before arrival, with real-time data sharing among Airport Health Officers, the Bureau of Immigration, and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme. 
  • IGCAR Inaugurates World’s First Nuclear-Heat Based Hydrogen Production Facility in Kalpakkam – India inaugurated the world’s first hydrogen production facility using nuclear process heat on 26 June 2026 at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu, using the Copper-Chlorine thermochemical cycle fed by process heat from the Fast Breeder Test Reactor. Exam importance: The Copper-Chlorine cycle was developed indigenously by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, and the facility serves as a technology demonstrator for future large-scale, carbon-free hydrogen production linked to advanced nuclear reactors.   • IAF Receives Final Operational Clearance for Indigenous AEW&C System ‘Netra’ – The Indian Air Force received Final Operational Clearance from DRDO for the indigenously developed Airborne Early Warning and Control system ‘Netra’ to strengthen airborne surveillance and network-centric warfare capability, with the induction ceremony in Bengaluru presided over by Air Marshal Awadhesh Kumar Bharti, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff. Exam importance: The Netra programme began in 2003 as a joint IAF-DRDO initiative, with the Centre for Air Borne Systems (CABS) as the lead laboratory; the IAF had received Initial Operational Clearance in 2017. Netra is built on a modified Embraer EMB-145I airframe and offers a detection range of 240-300 km, replacing legacy radios with Software Defined Radar systems.
  • First-Ever National Rural Development Conference 2026 Set for 28-29 June – The first-ever National Rural Development Conference is scheduled for 28-29 June 2026 in New Delhi, organised by the Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan.   • India Launches Operation Amistad to Provide Earthquake Relief to Venezuela – India launched Operation Amistad on 26 June 2026 to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to Venezuela after two earthquakes caused deaths and injuries, with two IAF C-17 transport aircraft carrying relief material and medical support. Exam importance: India dispatched more than 35 tonnes of aid including medicines, medical equipment and two BHISHM Cubes, along with a 41-member Indian Army Field Hospital team from the 60 Para Field Hospital. Venezuela’s capital is Caracas; “Amistad” means “friendship” in Spanish. 
  • SCO Women’s Forum 2026 Held in Bishkek – The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Women’s Forum 2026 was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, on 26 June 2026, bringing together SCO member countries for discussions on women’s empowerment and leadership. Exam importance: SCO members include India, China, Russia, Pakistan and four Central Asian republics; Kyrgyzstan’s capital is Bishkek.

  • RBI Releases Master Directions on Credit Derivatives, 2026 – The Reserve Bank of India issued the Master Directions – RBI (Credit Derivatives) Directions, 2026, aimed at deepening India’s corporate bond market, effective 25 June 2026 under Section 45W of the RBI Act, 1934. Exam importance: The framework introduces Total Return Swaps linked to corporate bonds and derivatives on credit indices, and mandates a Credit Derivatives Determinations Committee under FIMMDA (Fixed Income Money Market and Derivatives Association of India).
  • jUMPP Secures NPCI Approval to Operate as TPAP, Enabling UPI Services – AI-driven fintech platform jUMPP secured NPCI approval to operate as a Third Party Application Provider, enabling it to integrate UPI payment capabilities, including P2P transfers, merchant payments and bill payments, through its banking partner YES Bank. Exam importance: Founded in 2025 by Sarvjeet Singh Virk, jUMPP currently offers digital gold, mutual funds and SIPs within its app; NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) regulates UPI infrastructure in India.

  • ACC Appoints Mahesh Dixit as Director of the Intelligence Bureau – The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, approved Mahesh Dixit, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, as the next Director of the Intelligence Bureau for two years, succeeding Tapan Kumar Deka, a 1988-batch IPS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, whose extended tenure ends on 30 June 2026. Exam importance: Mahesh Dixit qualified as a medical doctor before joining the IPS and was promoted Special Director of the IB in 2024. The Intelligence Bureau is India’s premier internal intelligence agency, functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs. 
  • OpenAI Names Prabhjeet Singh as Managing Director for India – OpenAI announced Prabhjeet Singh as its Managing Director for India on 26 June 2026; he will take charge in September 2026 and report to Kiran Mani, OpenAI’s Managing Director for the Asia Pacific region. Exam importance: The combined entity will have an annual revenue run rate of around $2.9 billion and a workforce of over 46,000 employees across 40-plus countries. Persistent will fund the deal through committed financing from Barclays, with closing expected in Q4 CY2026 or Q1 CY2027, pending clearance from Germany’s financial regulator BaFin. Persistent Systems (founded 1990, Pune) trades on the BSE and NSE under “PERSISTENT.”

  • 400-Year-Old Poornankuppam Agriculture Pond Restored in Puducherry – The Poornankuppam Agriculture Pond, also known as Muzhiyankulam, a 400-year-old, 1.5-acre waterbody in Poornankuppam village, Puducherry, underwent renovation including desilting and bund strengthening to revive local water conservation.   • National Biodiversity Authority Issues SOP for Notification of Threatened Species – The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) released a Standard Operating Procedure on 26 June 2026 for the formal notification of threatened plant and animal species under the Biological Diversity Act framework.   • India’s Women’s 4x100m Relay Team Wins Gold at Asian Relays Championship 2026 – India signed off the 2026 Asian Relays Championships with a gold medal in the women’s 4x100m relay after Srabani Nanda, Sneha Shanuvalli, Sudeshna Shivankar and Tamanna clocked a season-best 43.85 seconds in Shangyu, China, ahead of host China (44.09s) and Thailand (44.11s). Exam importance: It was India’s only gold medal of the competition; India will host the next edition of the Asian Relays Championships in Chandigarh in 2027. 
  • Viswanathan Anand Conferred SJFI Gold Medal – Five-time World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand, Deputy President of FIDE, was conferred the Sports Journalists’ Federation of India (SJFI) Gold Medal for his contribution to Indian chess, presented by former India cricket captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth at the Madras Cricket Club, Chennai. Exam importance: Instituted in 2019, Anand became the 6th recipient of the SJFI Gold Medal, joining Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Amritraj, Prakash Padukone, P.T. Usha and Milkha Singh (posthumous).
